Last summer Air Greenland offered a once weekly flight to BWI. It was the first time there was a flight to the USA from Greenland. I guess it didn't do so well, because it's not offered this year.
Sometimes you can get from KEF to Greenland, but the only regularly scheduled route would be via CPH on Air Greenland.

Icelandair put a B757 on a 3000 foot runway? That's gotta be wrong. No WAY could it take off again with any sort of payload or fuel, much less the fuel to get 3 hours away. Maybe you meant Kangerlussuaq? Edit: I was wrong, they do actually fly that route but with a stop in KEF and a change to a DHC-8.
Either way, I think the only way is ORD-CPH-Greenland.

By far the easiest way is to go to KEF, spend a few days in Reykjavik and head over via Flugfelag Islands (Air Iceland) from the 'downtown' Reykjavik airport on a Fokker 50 to Kulusuk (KUS / BGKK). It's about a two hour flight, and if the weather is good the pilots will frequently go out of their way to provide interesting tours on the outbound leg from Kulusuk. The last I did it had glorious weather, and everyone onboard was impressed with the glacial fields and crevasses. It's a great experience.
One related note question: how long do you want to stay in Greenland? Depending on your needs for creature comforts, a little can go a long way. The mosquitoes are especially lethal in summer. This is in no way meaning to discourage you; I am glad that I have been and hope you have a great time, no matter how you get there!

Anything to do with Iceland and Greenland always works out incredibly expensive. That Air Iceland day trip works out at 277 pounds! Iceland still remains the most expensive place I have ever been too. I guess Greenland would be the same.
I've looked at Greenland flight and hotel combos in the past using various routings and standards of hotels and I'm coming to think it is cheaper (in the long run) to book a package tour.
